With 100% of funding kept local and used directly to support those in need, the organization operates entirely through the efforts of committed volunteers, with no paid staff or overhead costs. Assistance is offered in the form of vouchers to cover expenses such as gas cards for travel to treatments or other financial needs approved by the Board of Directors. Funds are available to any Jefferson County resident currently diagnosed with cancer and seeking medical care, with residence verification required. Our mission is to empower women and their families to break the cycle of poverty through accessible, affordable, locally-based microloans. We envision a more equitable world where women are financially empowered, families are economically stable, and extreme poverty ceases to exist. History The organization was founded in 2010 by Tom Eggert, a now-retired professor at the University of Wisconsin. A major earthquake hit Haiti in January, 2010, and the students in Tom’s class wanted to directly help families impacted by the earthquake. Tom had been teaching about the power of microfinance for many years, and here was an opportunity to put those lessons to practice. Working with an economic development group in Haiti, a microfinance program was born with startup capital of $3,000. We strive to provide an excellent program to keep our members informed and enlightened on the world. Feel free to join us as our guest this week! The last Tuesday of the month of every other month we will not hold a Noon meeting - instead we will have an Assembly at night. Happy Hour is from 5-6, dinner from 6-6:30, and the program from 6:30-7:00 - location will be listed on the calendar event. If you are unable to join us for a noon meeting....We also have a night group that meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month at Tyranena Brewery at 6 pm.	View
